Compare
Compare শব্দটি verb এবং noun হিসেবে ব্যবহৃত হয়।
Meaning as a verb:
সাদৃশ্য বা পার্থক্য চিহ্নিত, পরিমাপ বা গণনা করা। তুলনা করা।
Pointing out or measuring or estimating the similarity or difference.
Examples:
- Parents should not compare their one children with the other one. (পিতামাতাদের তাদের এক সন্তানকে অন্য সন্তানের সাথে তুলনা করা উচিত না।)
- The students were comparing the facilities of their school with those of the other schools.
Meaning as a noun:
beyond compare বা without compare এই দুইটি phrase হিসেবে ব্যবহৃত হয়। যার অর্থ এমন প্রকৃতি বা গুণের অধিকারী হওয়া যা একই ধরনের অন্য সব মানুষ বা জিনিসকে ছাপিয়ে যায়। অতুলনীয়।
Used in a phrase as beyond compare or without compare. It means having such nature or quality which surpasses any other person or thing of the same kind. Incomparable.
Examples:
- The singing performance of Lisa is beyond compare. (লিসার গানের কৃতিত্ব অতুলনীয়।)
- This is a tragic film without compare.
Contrast
Contrast শব্দটিও verb এবং noun হিসেবে ব্যবহৃত হয়।
Meaning as a verb:
পার্থক্য খোঁজা।
Looking for differences.
Examples:
- They were contrasting the writings of the writer with her older works and found nice improvements. (তারা লেখকের লেখাগুলো তার পুরনো কাজগুলোর সাথে তুলনা করে সুন্দর উন্নতি খুঁজে পেলো।)
- The quality of food of this restaurant contrast very much with that of the other restaurant.
Meaning as a noun:
নজরে পড়ার মতো পার্থক্য।
Noticeable difference.
Examples:
- Jim is much polite, in contrast with his brother. (জিম তার ভাইয়ের তুলনায় বেশ ভদ্র।)
- The designer has used the contrast of two colors so nicely.
