Common
Common শব্দটি adjective এবং noun হিসেবে ব্যবহৃত হয়।
Meaning as an adjective:
1. যা প্রায়ই করা হয়, দেখা যায় বা ঘটে থাকে। প্রচলিত বা সাধারণ।
Done or found or occurring often. Conventional or usual.
Examples:
- “Rahim” is a common name in Bangladesh. (বাংলাদেশে” রহিম” একটি প্রচলিত নাম।)
- Traffic jam is a common problem in Dhaka city.
2. ভাগ করে নেয়া, সংযুক্ত, যৌথ বা যৌথভাবে অনুষ্ঠিত।
Shared, united, held jointly.
Examples:
- We saw that four families were using a common kitchen in that house. (আমরা দেখলাম সেই বাড়ীটিতে চারটি পরিবার একটি রান্নাঘর যৌথভাবে ব্যবহার করছে।)
- The school has a big common room.
3. কখনও কখনও রুচির অভাব বা নিম্নমানের বা শ্রেণীর বোঝায়।
Often indicates lack of refinement or taste or of low quality or class.
Examples:
- This dress is too common. (এই পোশাকটা খুবই প্রচলিত।)
- This is a common design; I want to try something different.
Meaning as a noun:
1. একটি খোলা জমির এলাকা যা জনসাধারণের ব্যবহারের জন্য অনুমোদিত।
An open area of land which is allowed for use by the public.
Example:
- You have to leave some space for commons while building your house. (আপনার বাড়ি তৈরীর সময় জনসাধারণের ব্যবহারের জন্য কিছু জায়গা ছেড়ে দিতে হবে।)
2. একই ধরনের কোন কিছু দুই বা ততোধিক ব্যক্তি বা বস্তুর মধ্যে থাকা।
Having something of the same type among two or more people or things.
Example:
- Do you have something in common? (তোমাদের মধ্যে কি একইধরনের কিছু আছে?)
Mutual
Mutual শব্দটিও adjective এবং noun হিসেবে ব্যবহৃত হয়।
Meaning as an adjective:
1. পারস্পরিক।
Reciprocated.
Examples:
- Jim and Jack are trying to solve the problem through mutual understanding. (জিম এবং জ্যাক সমস্যাটি পারস্পরিক বোঝাপড়ার মাধ্যমে সমাধান করার চেষ্টা করছে।)
- We should have mutual respect for one another.
- We will have some mutual benefit from this agreement.
2. দুই বা ততোধিক ব্যক্তির মধ্যে সাধারণ কিছু বা একই কিছু থাকা।
Having something common between two or people.
Example:
- Some of our mutual friends are coming to the program. (আমাদের কয়েকজন সাধারণ বন্ধু অনুষ্ঠানটিতে আসছে।)
Meaning as a noun:
পারস্পরিক বীমা কোম্পানী বা আর্থিক প্রতিষ্ঠান বা তহবিলকে অনেকসময় অনানুষ্ঠানিকভাবে বলা হয়।
A mutual insurance company or financial organization or funds are sometimes informally called mutual.
Example:
- Jeff is investing money in mutual. (জেফ পারস্পরিক তহবিলে অর্থ বিনিয়োগ করছে।)
