An auxiliary verb or helping verb is a verb that is used to determine the tense, mood, or voice of another verb and helps to complete the meaning of main verb.
In English common auxiliary verbs are be (am, is, are, was, were, being), have, do etc.
Modal auxiliary verbs are can, could, may, might, shall, should, will, would and must.
Example of auxiliaries in action:
- আল্লাহ সর্বশক্তি - Allah is Almighty.
- তুমি একজন সৎ লোক – You are an honest man.
- আমি তোমার সাহায্যকারী – I am your helper.
- আমার একটি বাগান আছে – I have a garden.
- তার অনেক টাকা আছে – He has much money.
- সে একজন কবি ছিল – He was a poet.
- তারা পরিশ্রমী ছিল - They were industrious.
- রহিমের অনেক বন্ধু ছিল – Rahim had many friends.
- তাকে এটা করতে হবে – He is to do it.
- তার এটা করার কথা আছে – He has to do it.
- তার এটা করার কথা ছিল – He was to do it.
- তাকে এটা করতে হয়েছিল – He had to do it.
- সে অংকটি করতে পারে (ইচ্ছে করলে) – He may do the sum.
- সে অংকটি করতে পারে (ক্ষমতা আছে) - He can do the sum.
- সে বইটি পড়তে পারত (ইচ্ছে করলে) - He might read the book.
- সে বইটি পড়তে পারত (ক্ষমতা ছিল) – He could read the book.
- সে কাজটি করে থাকবে – He may have done the work.
- সে কাজটি করে থাকত – He might have done the work.
- ছাত্রটির স্কুলে যাওয়া উচিৎ - The student should go to school.
- ছাত্রটির স্কুলে যাওয়া উচিৎ ছিল - The student should have gone to school.
- সে কাজটি করত (মাঝে মাঝে) – He would do the work.
- সে কাজটি করত (অভ্যাসগত) – He used to do the work.
- সে অবশ্যই গল্পটি বলবে – He must tell the story.
- সে অবশ্যই গল্পটি বলতে থাকবে – He must have told the story.
- আমি কয়েক দিনের মধ্যে ফিরে আসব – I shall come back within a few days.
- আজ সে ঢাকা যাবে – He will go to Dhaka today.
- সে মাঠে ফুটবল খেলবে – He will play football in the field.
- তুমি এই বিষয়টি আলোচনা করবে – You will discuss the matter.
- ভবিষ্যতে আমি একজন কবি হব – I shall be a poet in future.
- তুমি অতি শিঘ্র ধনী হবে – You will be rich very soon.
- পরিনামে সে একজন রাজনীতি বিদ হবে – He will be a politician in the long run.
