As vs Like

As (যেহেতু/হিসেবে):

As সাধারণত conjunction হিসেবে বসে।

As means ‘since’/’because’. Sometimes as means ‘alike’.  

Example:

  • Sayma enjoys all kinds of music as I do. (Like নয়)
  • The situation is not that bad as you described.
  • He was so foolish as to lie.
  • The hotel is quite comfortable as such establishments go.
  • As you know, I cannot stay here for long.

 

Like (মত/সদৃশ):

Like সাধারনত conjunction হিসেবে বসে না। এটি preposition হিসেবে বসে।

Like means similar or nearly the same.

Example:

  • Stop acting like a spoilt kid. (As নয়)
  • Manik is like his father. (As নয়)  
  • The price is more like 1,000 dollars.
  • It looks like we'll finish on time.
  • To dance like she does requires great discipline.
