Stereotype
Stereotype, শব্দটি একটি noun এবং verb হিসেবেও ব্যবহৃত হতে পারে।
Meaning as a noun:
একটি বদ্ধমূল ধারণা যা প্রায় প্রত্যেকেরই কোন ব্যক্তি বা বস্তু সম্পর্কে থাকে, যা মূলতঃ ভুল।
A fixed concept that almost everyone has about anyone or anything, particularly a concept which is practically wrong/not proven.
Examples:
- I didn’t like the novel because all the characters are stereotypes. (উপন্যাসটি আমার ভাল লাগেনি কারণ সব চরিত্রগুলোই বাাঁধাধরা।)
- The movie was not interesting as all the climaxes are simply stereotypes.
- Try to think out of the box because this ad is nothing but a stereotype.
Meaning as a verb:
কোন বিশেষ ব্যক্তি বা বস্তু কেমন হতে পারে তা সম্পর্কে একটি বদ্ধমূল ধারণা রাখা, যা মূলতঃ ভুল।
Having a fixed concept of what a specific person or thing can be like, particularly a concept which is wrong.
Examples:
- The writer just stereotyped all the characters in his novel. (লেখক তার উপন্যাসে সব চরিত্রগুলোকে শুধু একটা বাঁধাধরা ছকে ফেলেছেন।)
- Try to do something new; you simply stereotyped the ad.
