Incorrect Omission of Prepositions (Part 2)

Supply someone with something (not supply someone something)

Incorrect: The government supplies schools free books.

Correct: The government supplies schools with free books. (সরকার বিদ্যালয়গুলোতে বিনামূল্যে বই সরবরাহ করে।)

 

Provide someone with something (not provide someone something)

Incorrect: The government provides the family money.

Correct: The government provides the family with money. (সরকার পরিবারটিতে অর্থের যোগান দেয়।)

 

Provide something to someone (not provide something someone)

Incorrect: We provided food him.

Correct: We provided food to him. (আমরা তাকে খাবারের যোগান দিলাম।)

 

Inform someone of something (not inform someone something)

Incorrect: We informed the police the murder.

Correct: We informed the police of the murder. (আমরা পুলিশকে হত্যাটা সম্পর্কে জানালাম।)

 

Reply to a person (not reply a person)

Incorrect: I replied her questions.

Correct: I replied to her questions. (আমি তার প্রশ্নগুলোর উত্তর দিলাম।)

 

Say to a person (not say a person)

Incorrect: Alice said me, “Congratulations!”

Correct: Alice said to me, “Congratulations!” (এ্যালিস আমাকে বললো,” অভিনন্দন!”)

Note: Say হচ্ছে Intransitive verb. Say-এর পরে Preposition ছাড়া সরাসরি Indirect object বসে না।

 

Speak to/with someone (not speak someone)

Incorrect: I will speak her.

Correct: I will speak to/with her. (আমি তার সাথে কথা বলবো।)

Note: Speak verb-টির পরে personal object বসালে তার আগে preposition বসাতে হয়।

 

Search for a thing (not search a thing)

Incorrect: The police searched the evidence.

Correct: The police searched for the evidence. (পুলিশ প্রমাণ খুঁজলো।)

 

Share with a person (not share a person)

Incorrect: Arif shared me his food.

Correct: Arif shared his food with me. (আরিফ আমার সাথে তার খাবার ভাগ করে নিলো।)

 

Think of a person or thing

Incorrect: Think a person who will always love you unconditionally.

Correct: Think of a person who will always love you unconditionally. (এমন একজন মানুষের কথা ভাবো যে সবসময় তোমাকে নিঃশর্তভাবে ভালোবাসবে।)

 

Wait for a person (not wait a person)

Incorrect: I will be waiting you here.

Correct: I will be waiting for you here. (আমি তোমার জন্য এখানে অপেক্ষা করবো।)

 

Wish for a thing

Incorrect: I have never wished any reward.

Correct: I have never wished for any reward. (আমি কখনও কোনো পুরস্কারের আশা করিনি।)

 

Write to a person (not write a person)

Incorrect: Jane writes me monthly.

Correct: Jane writes to me monthly.

Note: “Write”-এর পরে direct object বসলে preposition উঠে যাবে। যেমন: Jane writes me two letters monthly.
