Complement
Complement শব্দটি noun এবং verb হিসেবে ব্যবহৃত হয়।
Meaning as a noun:
1. যে সংখ্যা সম্পূর্ণ করবে।
The number which will make complete.
Examples:
- The man came with a full complement of parrots. (লোকটি একটি পূর্ণপরিপূরক সংখ্যক তোতাপাখি সঙ্গে নিয়ে এসেছিলো।)
- The bookstore has a full complement of storybooks.
2. অতিরিক্ত কিছু যা কোনোকিছুকে ঠিক বা সম্পূর্ণ করে।
An addition which makes for rightness or wholeness.
Examples:
- French fries are the right complement to the fried chicken. (চিকন আলু ভাজা, ভাজা মুরগীর সাথে ভালো যায়।)
- For the British, chips are the right complement to fried fish.
Meaning as a verb:
কোনোকিছুকে আরও আকর্ষণীয় বা আরও ভালো বা সম্পূর্ণ করে তোলা।
Making something more attractive or better or complete.
Examples:
- This purse and the dress are complementing each other. (এই পার্স এবং পোশাকটি পরস্পরকে আরও আকর্ষণীয় করে তুলছে।)
- A beautiful sari complements the smart and traditional look.
Compliment
Compliment শব্দটিও noun এবং verb হিসেবে ব্যবহৃত হয়।
Meaning as a noun:
শ্রদ্ধা, প্রশংসা বা অনুমোদন প্রকাশ করে এমন কোন কাজ বা মন্তব্য।
An action or remark expressing respect, admiration or approval.
Examples:
- I got many nice compliments after acting in the musical play at my university. (আমি আমার বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ে গীতিনাট্যে অভিনয় করার পর অনেক সুন্দর প্রশংসা পেয়েছিলাম।)
- The singer was overwhelmed with the compliments of the audience after her performance.
Meaning as a verb:
কারোর বা কোনোকিছুর প্রশংসা করা।
Praising someone or something.
Examples:
- Please develop the habit to compliment good things and works. (দয়া করে ভালো জিনিস এবং কাজের প্রশংসা করার অভ্যাস গড়ে তোলো।)
- The audience complimented the singer warm-heartedly.
