Chronic অর্থ দীর্ঘস্থায়ী । এটি একটি নিরপেক্ষ শব্দ, যা প্রায় সবসময় কোন চলমান সমস্যা, দীর্ঘস্থায়ী রোগ বা দীর্ঘস্থায়ী খারাপ অভ্যাসের সাথে যুক্ত থাকে। যেমন: ‘chronic shortage’, ‘chronic heart disease’ এবং ‘chronic liar’ প্রভৃতি।
Chronic means long-lasting. This is a neutral word which is almost always linked to an ongoing problem, long-lasting disease or long-lasting bad habits. For example, chronic shortage, chronic heart disease, and chronic liar’ etc.

Acute
Acute শব্দটিও একটি adjective.
Meaning as an adjective:
Acute অর্থ তীব্র বা জটিল বা মারাত্মক। এটা chronic-এর মতো দীর্ঘস্থায়ী নয় সংক্ষিপ্ত কিন্তু মারাত্মক। যেমন: একটি রোগ যদি acute হয় তবে তা হঠাৎ করেই হয় এবং অল্প সময় থাকে কিন্তু তা প্রাণঘাতিও হতে পারে। যদিও একটি chronic অবস্থা অবশ্যই অপ্রীতিকর, এটা জরুরী না যে তা রোগীর বা ভুক্তভোগীর জন্য প্রাণঘাতি হবে।
Acute means severe or critical or serious. This is not long-lasting like chronic, brief but severe. For example, if an illness is acute, it happens suddenly and lasts a short time but may be life-threatening. Although a chronic condition will certainly be an unpleasant one, it doesn’t necessarily endanger the life of the sufferer.
Examples:
- Try to solve this problem now, or it will turn into an acute one. (এই সমস্যাটি এখনই সমাধান করার চেষ্টা করো, নতুবা এটা একটা মারাত্মক আকার নেবে।)
- There is an acute shortage of pure drinking water in this area.
- Alex is suffering from an acute liver disease.
- Please change your lifestyle or your cardiac problem will turn into an acute one.
