"I was reading the dictionary. I thought
it was a poem about everything."

Scarcely vs Rarely

Scarcely / adverb /(কদাচিৎ):

Scarcely সাধারণত কিছুই নেই অথবা একদম অল্প কিছু বোঝাতে ব্যবহৃত হয়।

Scarcely means ‘almost nothing’ or ‘almost not’.

Example:

  • Mushfiq had scarcely finished when she came. (Rarely নয়)
  • Jon scarcely has money.
  • This is scarcely a time to laugh.
  • I could scarcely tell them they were wrong.

Rarely /adverb/ (কদাচিৎ):

Rarely খুব কম সময়ে ঘটে এমনকিছু বোঝাতে ব্যবহৃত হয়।

Rarely means ‘almost never’.

Example:

  • Robin rarely comes to see me. (Scarcely নয়)
  • She rarely talks about her past.
  • Rarely do we see this kind of weather in our area.
  • I rarely watch horror movie.
