Famous vs Notorious

Famous /adjective/ (প্রসিদ্ধ ; বিখ্যাত):

কোনো ব্যক্তি বা কোনো কিছু খ্যাত বা সুপরিচিত বোঝাতে Famous শব্দটি ব্যবহৃত  হয়ে থাকে।

Something famous is well known, usually because it's special or particularly good. Celebrities, historic paintings, and the best burger in town could all be described as famous. It is used for positive expression.

Example:

  • Hazi Muhammad Mushin has been famous for his kindness. (Notorious নয়)
  • The country is famous for its natural beauty.
  • The city is a World Heritage Site and is famous for its classical music, beer and marzipan.
  • Pitcairners are famous for the culture of silence that pervades their small society.
  • It was reminiscent of Marino’s famous play against the New York Jets in 1994.

 

Notorious /adjective/ (কুখ্যাত / কু প্রসিদ্ধ):

বিশেষত কুকীর্তির জন্য ব্যাপকভাবে পরিচিত বোঝাতে Notorious শব্দটি ব্যবহৃত হয়ে থাকে।

Use the adjective notorious to describe people, places, or things that are famous for a bad reason. It is used for negative expression when something is famous in negative way.

Example:

  • Hitler had been notorious for killing Jews indiscriminately. (Famous নয়)
  • Los Angeles is notorious for its smog.
  • He was a notorious drinker and womanizer.
  • Such infrastructure projects are notorious for being delayed and over budget.
  • In fact, the creatures are notorious for devouring nearly anything they can find.
