Appropriate Preposition:

  • Subject to ( শর্তাধীন ) This is subject to approval of the committee.
  • Fond of ( অনুরাগী ) Children are fond of sweets.
  • Smile on ( অনুগ্রহ করা ) Fortune smiled on him.
  • Inferior to ( নিকৃষ্ট ; হীন ) He is inferior to his neighbour.
  • Envy of ( ঈর্ষা ) I have no envy of him.

Idioms:

  • slap on the wrist ( মৃদু শাস্তি ) Although he broke the rules, he was only given a slap on the wrist
  • Stick to ( দৃঢ়ভাবে লেগে থাকা ) He sticks to his decision.
  • To the contrary ( কাহারও বক্তব্যের বিপক্ষে ) In the court he said nothing to the contrary.
  • Turn down ( প্রত্যাখান করা ) He turned down my proposal.
  • ABC ( প্রাথমিক জ্ঞান ) Everybody must know at least the ABC of religion.
