Idioms:

  • All but ( প্রায় ) The poor villagers are all but ruined.
  • At bay ( কোনঠাসা ) The tiger was at bay in the bush.
  • Bad blood ( মনোমালিন্য ; শত্রতা ; দ্বেষ ) Now there is bad blood between the two brothers.
  • slap on the wrist ( মৃদু শাস্তি ) Although he broke the rules, he was only given a slap on the wrist
  • In vogue ( চালু ) This custom is not in vogue now.
